Making Money With Facebook - Chapter 5: Recent Facebook Changes

Author: glend

Introduction

As we have already established, until only one year ago, Facebook was still a relatively exclusive closed community, one that was principally focused on college and high school students, particularly in the USA.

Over the course of the past year, Facebook has therefore been making some very dramatic changes to the way that it operates. Some of the changes have been popular whilst others have been less so, but the one thing that is beyond question is that all of the changes have substantively altered the way that the Facebook community works.

Several of the changes that Facebook have introduced have been unpopular with existing community members, and have consequently brought the ownership of the website into conflict with many of the more outspoken community members (of whom there are quite a significant number!)

What this has demonstrated is the fact that many Facebook members are very protective about their community, and do not like to .... Read More

Making Money With Facebook - Chapter 4: An Initial Facebook Overview

Author: glend

 Introduction

If you are used to opening up the home page of MySpace, then you will in all probability find the first page of Facebook somewhat plain, perhaps even a little bland.

However, you can clearly see from the screenshot above that the first thing the site encourages you to do is to ‘Find Friends’ (the emphasis being on ‘finding’ people you already know).

Should you choose to follow this link, you will quickly discover that it tak.... Read More

Making Money With Facebook - Chapter 3: Comparing Facebook with MySpace

Author: glend

Despite all of these facts and figures, however, MySpace is still by far the most popular social networking site, and that is a situation that seems unlikely to change in the near future.

Now, all of the major community sites do emphasize that the main function is to provide a means for people from all over the world to network with one another.

It would therefore be fair to suggest that most of these sites have (as far as it is possible) tried to discourage and prevent people from viewing them as commercially orientated sites.

In other words, sites like MySpace and Facebook do not want their communities used by members promoting their products or services to other members. Despite the fact that it is owned by the Fox Corporation, even MySpace is no exception to this rule, and has gone to some lengths to prevent the site becoming a huge online auction or bazaar by another name.

Nevertheless, many smart online marketers and internet entrepreneurs have managed.... Read More

Making Money With Facebook - Chapter 2: Facebook – From Then To Now

Author: glend

Facebook was originally founded in early 2004 by a group of ex-Harvard university students as a service that was initially restricted to students of their own university.

From there, Facebook rapidly expanded their services into most of the Ivy League universities in the USA, and thereafter it went to a larger scale in the USA, spreading to most universities and eventually down into high schools as well.

Next, the site went international by moving into Canada, Australia and the UK so that it was (in its final ‘guise’ as an educational service) open to anyone who had a university or college e-mail address (e.g .edu, .ac.uk etc).

In late 2006, Facebook finally took the decision to move away from these educational grassroots and became a truly open service that anybody, anywhere in the world could register with and participate in (a move which prompted significant protests from the existing Facebook user base!).

Despite this move away from their traditional.... Read More

Making Money With Facebook - Chapter 1: Introduction

Author: glend

There can be little doubt that the nature of the internet has changed significantly over the last two or three years.

Nor can anyone seriously question the fact that one of the most obvious changes has been the rapid and exciting growth of the ‘interactivity’ of websites on a truly global scale.

With this proliferation of new websites and blogs claiming to be Web 2.0 friendly, and the stunning growth in the popularity of social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, it is becoming increasingly clear that people all over the world are using the internet as a principal means of communication in ever increasing numbers.

Not surprisingly, therefore, businesses both big and small have also begun to recognize and understand the potential of such websites and networks for expanding their customer bases.
For example, whereas perhaps only a year or eighteen months ago, most large corporate websites were purely informational, many are now being adapted to .... Read More

Get the Best Payout on CPA Offers

Author: glend

Tired of lame payouts? Get the bumps, Get the offers and utlimately get the cash! I will tell you how to get the best payout on any CPA offer.

1. Under promise over deliver on the offer. Don’t poke your manager for a BIG bump unless you can do something with the offer. Or if it is in a different niche you haven’t tried before tell the AM you will do the best you can and a bump would help. (I want to clarify on a big bump cause any offer you can ask for a bump and should get one of .05 to .10)

2. Get the best affiliate manager (AM) in the networks you can. If you are unhappy with your AM ask for another one. If it takes your AM to long to give you a bump or find out information on an offer ask for another one. Affiliate Managers can make or break you from being the best affiliate you can be (plus give you access to Private offers).

3. Find out which affiliate network has the offer direct. This is a little tougher but in general you can look at the base pay who.... Read More

The Cons of Working Online

Author: glend

So last week I blogged about The Benefits of Working Online. so i figured I better give a real picture that it isn’t all roses and glory… but there are cons to working online. (but I Wouldn’t trade it for a normal 9 to 5)

1. Work from anywhere there is an internet connection. (this is also a con cause you just can’t seem to get away from your work… Even the cellphone I got it so i can do work and access my stats etc..)

2. Set your own hours. Yes this is a con… because you can so easily be LAZY…. I mean common yesterday I made $$,$$$ i should sleep in,  ok sometimes i do… but if i got in that habit my earnings would tank over time.

3. You are Your own Boss. This is a con also because some people really need people breathing down their neck to be productive so you must be self motivating…

4. You work on.... Read More

The Benefits of Working Online

Author: glend

I decided since Valentine’s Day is over things are getting back to more of a normal pace I would write a little bit on the benefits of working online.

1. Work from anywhere there is an internet connection. (it’s a rarity to go somewhere you can’t get internet)

2. The income doesn’t start and stop at 8 to 5. You can reach people 24/7

3. Set your own hours. I am not going to lie I put in more time than i ever did at my Engineering job, But I put in the time when and where i want to.

4. Startup costs are LOW!!! Compared to a B&M business it could cost you hundreds of thousands…. online, you don’t even have to buy a domain to make money online. (although i would reccomend buying a domain ($8) and hosting (under $10 month)).

5. It’s a Business Expense.  No I am not cheating the system etc.. but you would be surprised what all you can write off as a business expense (Consult a good CPA or Tax Lawyer)

6. Cost of Expansion is low..... Read More

How NOT to do a Media Kit for your Website

Author: glend

I was surfing around the Internet looking at some website media kits that were local to my parents (Louisiana). I came across this media kit (http://www.redrivermoms.com/media/RedRiverMoms_Sales_Brochure.pdf ) and I got a large chuckle out of it.

First off it doesn’t give any real stats about the site. It just talks about women online in general and what they spend. While i think this is good information to have, it gives me no gauge if these type of women are on your site, nor how many visitors even come to your site. It could be a 100 a day or 100,000, I guess they want you to call them to find this out.

The best part comes when you check out the advertising rates on page 2.

Testing a New CPA Network and Neverblue Ads

Author: glend

As i have time I try out new CPA networks to see if they are worth while or if they are full of false promises. Before i get on to talking about Neverblue Ads, I figured i would discuss how i test a new network out.

Testing a New CPA Network:
1. Search forums and Google to see what other people have to say about the network. (don’t let one bad comment keep you from trying but several negatives you may want to proceed with caution)
2. Contact the Network and ask for a list of offers and base payout. (you never know they may have an offer you are currently running but with higher payout)
3. Talk to the CPA network about payments. (are the payment periods flexible, can they do net 15 or bimonthly or even weekly.) (Note* prove yourself first then ask for quicker payments, off the bat asking for bimonth or weekly payments usually throws up a red flag)
4. Signup and check out the offers make sure the p.... Read More
